The slope is a form of verb that expresses the effect on reality. So this is a certain modality of the verb that is expressed through different forms.
As in Bulgarian, there are several inclinations in English:
- Indicative Mood
- Impressive Moodle (Impressive Moodle)
- Subjunctive Mood
Here it is also appropriate to add a fourth kind - Conditional mood, with the clarification that this is a subjunctive type.
What is the difference between Subjunctive and Indicative Moodle (Indicative Maud)
- The Exhibiting Loop means an action that is a real fact in the present, past or future. That is, through this inclination at the appropriate time, we transmit information about all kinds of activities and events. It can be used both in communication sentences, for finding fact or transmission of information and in questionative ones to identify different facts from reality.
- I saw you yesterday.
- Has the bus arrived?
- The Obedience Leaning means that the speaker considers the action not to be a real fact but as supposedly, desirable, possible or impossible under certain conditions. it can also be used as a polite way of expressing desire, request, recommendation or suggestion.
- It is recommended that you be on time.
- I wish my mother were here now.
The difference in conditional slopes
As we have already said, the Conditional Incline is a kind of subjunctive. In short, it means an action that is possible on a certain condition. In English, this condition is often introduced with In English, the conditional slopes are 4, let's look at them in more detail:
- Zero conditional
It is used when the result of the condition is always true - a common fact or something we are sure will happen. That is, we do not care about the past and the future but the result itself of the action in .
- If he misses the bus, he is late for work.
- The condition is introduced with
- First Conditional (First conditional incline)
And here one part of the sentence describes a certain condition, to which an action becomes or does not occur. The sentences in this slope are complex, the main one is to express the result of the condition set by the subordinate sentence. The subjugated sentence is most often introduced with the alliances If, Unless, In case. When it comes to the future or present, in the subordinate /If-speech/ we use Present Simple Tense and in the main we can use any of the group of Future Times - Future Simple, Future Continuous, Future Perfect, Future Perfect Continuous.
- We will be late if we don’t hurry.
- If we wait here, we’ll be late. However, when we want to express the not quite certain result of the condition, the present Conditional can be used with might.
- I might go to the theatre tonight if I finish my homework. As you know from the lesson on First Conditional, slopes represent actions that are possible under certain conditions. Second conditional slope, we use when we talk about possible but incredible future events.
- Second Conditional
We use it when we talk about imaginary events or actions and their results. That is, to describe impossible or unlikely situations in terms of present. And here the sentence we use is complex and made up of two parts - about condition and result. To set the condition we use In the main sentence, to describe . . the imaginary result we use a modal verb / most often .wuld . / + verb in infinitive:
- If + past time + , would + Infinitive
If I won the lottery, I would buy a house. If you want to express some degree of probably still action will happen, instead of using the past forms of modal verbs can and may - respectively Could and might. This slope is often used to give advice of the type: If I were you, I would buy that T-shirt. Here it is important to remember that
- Third Conditional
If we are talking about a possible result in terms of the present, then thirdly, we express alleged or imaginary actions that refer to the past. Formation:
- If + past perfect time +..., would + have + past communion of verb
- If he had known you were sick, he would have visited you.
And here you can replace would with should, could and might depending on whether you give advice or express probability. To conclude, we will add that the two parts of the complicated sentence can be exchanged. That is, you can start the statement with the subservient .In this case it is separated from the main by comma. If you start with the main one, it and the subordinate do not put a comma. It doesn't matter how you approach it, it doesn't change the meaning.
The control of the tendencies in English will certainly give you much more freedom to express different thoughts. The above is only a brief introduction. If you want to learn more about their use, formation and meaning - look for consultation with a lecturer at the Language School.
