The subtleties of phonetics in English
One of the main difficulties in learning each new language is getting used to its phonetic system. What does that mean? In short, these are those differences between spelling and pronouncing a word. English makes no exception, but fortunately there is something called phonetic transcription which is an excellent assistant to anyone who first steps in the language. But let's go in a row and get to know one of the subtleties of phonetics in English.  

Votes and consonants

The basis of each language is its alphabet. English consists of 26 letters - 6 vowels and 20 consonants. However, with their help, a much greater number of sounds are being transmitted. Let's look at it a little bit more closely:
  • Voices In English there are so-called monographs - vowels consisting of one sign, i.e. letter and digraphs - a combination of two letters. 
    • Monographs - these are the six vowels that you should be careful with, because depending on whether they are open or closed syllable, change their sound:
      • Letter A, a (a) In open - [hey] - made In closed short [f] - that
      • E, e (i) In open - long [and:] -be In closed - short [f] - ten At the end of the word, often not read At the beginning of the word is read as [and]
      • Letter I, i (a) In open - [i] - life In closed - [and] - ship
      • Letter O, oh (ow) In open - long [y:] In slammed closed - [o]
      • Letter U, u (y). In open - [ju:] - blue In open after j and r - [u:] - June In closed - [
      • Letter Y, y [wai] In open - [ai] - my In the closed and in the sufixes of adjectives and adverbs - [i] - myth
    • Diographs - They are a combination of two vowels or vowel and agree. Here's one of the most popular:
      • AI, AY - read [ei] - lay
      • EA - read [i:] - leave
      • OI, OY - read [Oi] - toy
      • OW - read [au] - vow; end of two complicated words in a deadlock - [ou] - spoorow
      • OU - read [au] - out
      • WA - read [wO:] if it agrees (except R) - want
      • OO - read [u:] - moon; read [u] to k - look
      • EE - read [i:] - need
 
  • Agreed. As we said, there are 20 of them. However, they transmit more sounds and, as we have already seen, some consonants are involved in combination with vowels when forming a new sound. Here we will only refer to some of the more specific consonants in English and consonants:
    • Specific consonants
      • S,s [s] Season [z] season
      • C,c [s] in front of i, e, y - cite [k] come
      • G,g [d "s] in front of i, e, y - gypsy; there are exceptions such as getting where read [g] [g] game
      • Q, q [kw] meets mainly in the combination QU - quake, quality
      • X, x [ks] before consonants or at the end of words - six [gz] in front of the blown vowels - exam
      • W, w do not read at the beginning of words to R-wrong
    • Agreements 
      • Ck [k] deck
      • Sh [sighs]
      • Ch [x] change
      • Th [ð] place the tongue between your teeth and pronounce the Bulgarian [h] they [θ] Place the language between teeth and pronounce Bulgarian [c] thanks

Phonetic transcription

Whatever specifics a word has, you can easily understand how to pronounce it correctly using its phonetic transcription. All you need to do is figure out the symbols she uses to indicate the correct pronunciation of words. Here are some of them:
  • [: ] . . . a pronounced pronunciation of vowels, which in many cases is meaningful for words
  • [æ] 
  • [ "Sounds"] and, uh... 
  • [ Uh... 
  • [ɔ] – The sound lp

Differences with phonetics of Bulgarian language

It is impossible here to compare the two phonetic systems fully, but we will try to identify some of the characteristic sides of Bulgarian language in order to compare similarities or highlight differences.  
  1. Number of letters in the alphabet
    • Bulgarian consists of 30 letters, 6 of them are vowels as well as in English 
    • Bulgarian consonants, however, divide into soft and hard and by this sign their number is 39
    •  g h, n no soft match
  2. Special letters and lumps
    • # She's all right, that's just soft
    • It [Ya, yah, uh, uh], yu [Yu, yu] and will be combined with two sounds or a sign that the previous consonant is soft plus one sound
    • M-and I agree. This is the only letter in Bulgarian language that has no sound value. Its only function is to denote the softness of the previous consonant
    • S - consecration, combination of t
    • In Bulgarian there are combinations of sounds that have an alphanumeric match. Sometimes the same letter, however, can denote a different combination of sounds depending on its position in the word, for example:
      • Yu y + y - at the beginning of the word and after the vowel - July ♪ + y - after soft condiment - puree
      • Ya j + a - at the beginning of the word and after the vowel - strawberry r + uh - in endings of verb forms - water ♪ ♪ ♪ ♪ ♪ After a soft consonant - Please

Types of impact

Like accent is an important part of language. In Bulgarian, for example, depending on whether the syllable is struck or not, vowels have a different sound. What, though, is important to know about English accent:
  • Speech accent
That's the emphasis on her word and it depends on her pronunciation.  
  • Frazier accent
As it is apparent from his name, the intonation of the entire phrase depends on him. The words on which it falls are usually pronounced louder and more distinctly. 
  • Logic emphasis
It is used to separate a word into an expression or in a sentence. Surely what is said above is not comprehensive and only marks some basic concepts in English phonetics. But it is enough to illustrate how important for the whole sense understanding both the letter and the sound composition of the word and, of course, the correct placement of the accents.
